มาดูสำนวนภาษาอังกฤษที่เกี่ยวอาหารที่น่าสนใจกัน

• Pie in the sky หมายถึง บางสิ่งบางอย่างที่ไม่เป็นจริงหรือไม่สามารถสำเร็จได้ เช่น The salesman promised Jenny that the wrinkle cream would make her skin as soft as a baby’s, but she knew not to believe him, It was pie in the sky.

• Cry over spilled milk หมายถึง ไม่มีความสุขเพราะเหตุการณ์บางอย่างในอดีต ไม่สามารถเปลี่ยนแปลงได้ เช่น There’s no use worrying about a test you didn’t pass. You can’t make it up, so stop crying over spilled milk.

• Piece of cake หมายถึง การทำบางสิ่งบางอย่างที่ง่ายมาก เช่น When Ricky studied English, it was a piece of cake, but he found that learning Thai was very hard.

• Have egg on one’s face หมายถึง รู้สึกอาย อับอาย เช่น Jack sure had egg on his face when he realized he made a fool of himself at the party.

• Bring home the bacon หมายถึง นำเงินเข้าบ้าน มาช่วยเหลือจุนเจือในครอบครัว เช่น Mark became ill and couldn’t work anymore, so his wife went back to work. Now she’s the one who brings home the bacon.
