เชื่อว่าหลายคนเข้าใจคำว่า Below กับ Under แปลว่า ข้าใต้ แต่น้อยคนนักที่จะรู้ถึงความแตกต่างว่าทั้ง 2 คำนนี้ต่างกันอย่างไร ใช้ตอนไหนได้บ้าง วันนี้เรามีคำอธิบายมาบอกถึงความแตกต่างของ Below  และ  Under ดังนี้

Below แปลว่า ด้านล่าง โดยมีหลักการใช้ หลักๆ คือ

• Not directly under หมายความว่า Below จะหมายถึงด้านล่างที่ไม่ด้เฉพาะเจาะจง ว่าล่างจุดไหน เช่น
  • The sun slowly disappeared below the horizon.
  • Our camp was just a few meters below the peak.
• Measurement ,Vertical Scale เราจะใช้ Below กับการวัดแบบต่างๆ เช่น
  • The temperature is four degree below zero.
  • She’s well below average in intelligence.

Under แปลว่า ภายใต้ ใต้ล่าง โดยมีหลักการใช้คือ

• Covered เราจะใช้ Under เมื่อพูดถึงบางสิ่งที่อยู่ใต้บางอย่างที่มีการปกคลุมอยู่ และเฉพาะเจาะจงมากกว่า เช่น
  • The cat is sleeping under the table.
  • All the roads are under water.
• Less than เราใช้ under เมื่อพูดถึงบางอย่างที่น้อยกว่า เช่น
  • You can’t buy alcohol if you’re under 18.
  • There were under 500 people in the theatre.

แต่อย่างไรก็ตามทั้ง Below  และ  Under นั้นสามารถใช้ได้เหมือนกันเมื่อพูดถึงจำนวนที่ต่ำกว่า Lower than เช่น

• Look in that box below the shelf.
• Look in that box under the shelf.
